South Lebanon: fragile truce, heavy balance
In southern Lebanon, the prolonged truce under American mediation was not enough to interrupt hostilities. Since 2 March, the Lebanese Ministry of Health has recorded 3,073 deaths and 9,362 injuries. The attack by Deir Qanoun al-Nahr, who killed 14 people, including 4 children and 3 women, illustrates the continuing violence on the front. Hezbollah drones, the Israeli presence, the role of the Lebanese army and the crisis of the displaced now dominate the next diplomatic meetings.
US sanctions: Hezbollah, Amal and Lebanese Armed Forces targeted
The United States announced a new set of sanctions against nine people in Lebanon, including Hezbollah officials, two Amal cadres, one Iranian diplomat and two security officials related to the Lebanese Army and the General Security. Washington says it wants to counter Hezbollah's influence in institutions and accelerate its disarmament. Hezbollah and Amal denounce political pressure, while the targeting of security officials exposes the Lebanese state to a delicate sequence.
What if the attacks on the Gulf were part of an Israeli False Flag...
The drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, attributed to trajectories coming from Iraq, revive the debate on a possible operation under false banner. Israel would have a strategic interest in seeing the Gulf countries tighten their position against Iran, but such manipulation would also pose a huge political risk if it were discovered.
In Brazzaville and Levant, time goes up the slope: the Vintage Collective Market stops...
What if, for five days, time decides to slow down? What if the workings of everyday life gave way to a colourful, retro and resolutely creative parenthesis? It is the bet of the Vintage Collective Market, which invests Brazzaville and Levant from 27 to 31 May 2026, with a simple promise: to have the [...]
Political Islam, Zionism and Conflict of Legitimacy: History, Religion, Geopolitics and Memory of the...
The conflict between Zionism and part of the Muslim world cannot be reduced to mere religious opposition between Jews and Muslims. It is a complex entanglement of biblical memory, historical narratives, competing nationalisms, geopolitical traumas and spiritual representations of the Promised Earth. For a long time, the fight against Israel [...]
The collapse of the Lebanese state: between systemic corruption, oligarchic finance and unfinished sovereignty
For several years, a question has been insistent in political and intellectual debates in Lebanon: is the collapse of the Lebanese state only the consequence of the rise of Hezbollah, or is it the result of a much deeper and older crisis? For some, the answer seems obvious: the presence of an organisation [...]
Amnesty: justice à la carte
The postponement of the general amnesty reveals the fragility of Lebanese justice. Presented as a response to judicial delays and overcrowding, the text has become a battlefield between families of Islamist detainees, political networks, drug records, victims and sensitive names like Ahmad Al Assir. Parliament must now choose between a law based on public criteria and a new Community bargaining.
Lebanese pound: big notes, little confidence
The Bank of Lebanon is preparing new banknotes of 500,000, one million, two million and five million pounds. The transaction can alleviate cash payments and reduce cash handling costs. But it raises a deeper question: how can we restore confidence in the Lebanese pound while the political, banking and administrative leaders associated with the collapse remain largely present, without clear accountability or complete banking reform?
Lebanese tourism: conflict emptys the season
Lebanese tourism is approaching Eid Al Adha in a climate dominated by conflict, the strikes to the south, the security negotiations expected in Washington and the caution of travellers. Low bookings do not only reflect a weak economic situation. They reflect an immediate crisis of confidence, affecting hotels, restaurants, agencies, airlines, car rental companies and businesses dependent on diaspora returns.
Arab Markets: Unable to Trust Lebanon
The reopening of Arab markets to Lebanese products cannot be reduced to a diplomatic promise. The figures show a country still highly dependent on imports, exposed to a massive trade deficit and penalized by a deep crisis of confidence. The problem goes beyond the Gulf market. It concerns the responsibility of the actors still in place, banking reform, public controls, energy and the state's ability to prove that the rules have really changed.
Ben Gvir triggers a new diplomatic crisis between Israel and Europe
The video published by Itamar Ben Gvir showing flotilla activists kneeling for Gaza and hands tied triggered a rapid diplomatic crisis. Several countries, including France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Canada, have convened or announced the convening of Israeli representatives. The case involves the treatment of detainees, the communication of the Israeli minister and the political management of the blockade of Gaza.
Press review: Lebanon suspended from regional negotiations and the southern front
Lebanon remains caught between regional negotiations, fragile truce and active southern front. The Lebanese press of 21 May 2026 describes a country suspended from discussions between Washington, Tehran, Beirut and Tel Aviv, while Hadatha, the Israeli strikes and internal tensions further weaken the State in all immediate ways.
Trump-Netanyahu: Call on Iran
According to Axios, the call between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu went wrong around a new diplomatic initiative on Iran. The US President would like to keep an agreement open, while the Israeli Prime Minister considers the proposal too risky. Behind this tense exchange is the fate of Lebanon, whose southern front could be integrated into wider regional negotiations.
Situation in Lebanon: the South still under pressure
The situation in Lebanon remains dominated by the continued Israeli strikes in the South, the claimed fighting around Haddatha and a prolonged truce that struggles to produce concrete effects on the ground. The last 24 hours have been marked by deaths in Dweir and Tebnine, bombardments in several villages, diplomatic pressure around Washington, and internal political tensions around Hezbollah weapons and general amnesty.
